The Kowalsky Building project is part of a multi-phase process to upgrade the Vermont Studio Center’s, Johnson Village sprawling campus. Phase I consisted of a modern addition to the Kowalsky house with two levels of new construction, with ADA accessible residence rooms. Also part of Phase I, was the full preservation and renovation of the 1834 Annex. The annex was relocated onsite with a new foundation and its exterior was restored and preserved to protect its historical significance. The ongoing project was a collaboration between Vermont Studio Center, Cushman Design Group, The Design Group and Donald P. Blake Jr., Inc., with the goal being to improve the buildings’ performance, aesthetic and energy efficiency.
